Puducherry added 712 fresh cases, Death toll crosses 1600 mark

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,601 after 18 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours.

Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country; meanwhile, Puducherry received 712 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24-hours ending at 10 am on Friday, while 18 people succumbed to the virus in the Union Territory.

Fresh cases on Thursday pushed the UTs total cases tally to 1,07,826.

The cumulative death toll has reached 1,601 after 18 persons died of the disease in the last 24-hours.

The active cases tally has mounted to 9,494.

The Puducherry headquarters received the highest 712 new Covid-19 cases, followed by Karaikal (121), Yanam (36) and Mahe (25).

Director of the Health and Family Welfare department, S Mohan Kumar said that 34,949 vaccine doses have been given to health workers and 22,089 frontline workers. At the same time, 1,68,314 people in the age group 18+ years have been given doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

The official said that 1,215 patients have also recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 96,731.

The Health Department tested 9,458 lakh samples in the last 24-hours, UT recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 7.53%.

The Director said that the recovery rate here is 89.91%, while the death rate stood at 1.48%.
