Puducherry logs 92 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises to 1,23,802

Puducherry, Sep 2 (PTI) The union territory of Puducherry logged 92 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours taking the overall tally to 1,23,802, a senior official of the Department of Health said on Thursday. Two more patients- one each from Karaikal and Mahe- succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Thursday taking the death toll to 1,815, Director of the Health Department G Sriramulu said in a release. The 92 fresh cases were identified at the end of the examination of 5,195 samples and they were spread over Puducherry (43), Karaikal and Mahe (23 cases each) while the Yanam region registered three new infections. The Health department Director said the number of active cases stood at 837 with 176 in hospitals and the remaining 661 in home isolation. He said the department has so far tested 16.52 lakh samples and has found 14.02 lakh of them to be negative. Sriramulu said the test positivity rate was 1.77 per cent while fatality and recovery rates were 1.47 per cent and 97.86 per cent respectively. The Director said the department had so far vaccinated 38,142 healthcare workers and 23,005 frontline workers against the pandemic. He said 5.71 lakh people coming under the category of either senior citizens or those above 45 years were inoculated against the virus so far. In all , 8.19 lakh people including those who received the second dose have been covered in the union territory. PTI Cor SS SS
