Hosted by Department of Indology, the seminar will be held at the French Institute of Pondicherry A three-day national seminar on “Veda & Agama: Meeting grounds and developments” will begin at the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP) on Monday. The seminar is hosted by the Department of Indology, the oldest department at the IFP, and Maharishi Sandipani Rashtriya Vedavidya Pratishtan, Ujjain. According to a press note from the IFP, it is well known that the Vedas and the Agamas are the two most important fundamental textual traditions of India and they are the foundations for the entire Indian culture. While much research and study have been devoted to the Vedas in the preceding centuries not much has been done in the field of Âgama studies. The IFP, since its founding and for over six decades, has taken up the task of delving deep into the domain of the Saiva Agamas and it is a pioneer in the Saiva Agama studies and research. It has also collected an enormous amount of palm-leaf manuscripts which has been acclaimed by the UNESCO in its Register Memory of the World. The IFP has so far critically edited and published a dozen of original Saiva Âgamas of the Saivasiddhânta system on the basis of its manuscript collection. The seminar is aimed to bring scholars in the field of Vedas as well as Saiva Agamas to discuss mutual influences and individual specialities of these two great textual traditions of India. The seminar commences at 9.30 a.m.. .
