Puducherry moves a step closer to paperless system

Work has commenced on the establishment of the network in two colleges in the union territory, he added. The e-office scheme will be gradually extended to all line departments. The software will handle all files in electronic format. The files will bear digital signatures of officers at various levels where they are vetted. As many as 250 officers from various departments would be given hands-on training on the implementation of e-office process, Secretary to Information Technology D. Manikandan has said. Mr. Manikandan said that e-office would ensure paperless, efficient, transparent governance. The e-office scheme will be gradually extended to all line departments. The government has proposed to set up free Wi-Fi connectivity in 14 government colleges in the Union Territory by availing funds under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The government has asked telecom service providers to provide free Wi-Fi services under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme in public places. Railtel has come forward to provide free Wi-Fi at the Legislative Assembly and the Puducherry Railway Station. Two higher educational institutions — Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) and the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute (IGMC&RI) — will be connected with educational institutions throughout the country through high-speed data communication network under the National Knowledge Network (NKN). Work has commenced on the establishment of the network in two colleges in the union territory, he added.
