The Puducherry government should order a judicial probe into police high-handedness against students. The Communist Party of India (CPI) has condemned the police action on students of Pondicherry University during the visit of former BJP Member of Parliament Tarun Vijay to the institution on Thursday and demanded the government to order a judicial probe into the incident. CPI State secretary R. Viswanathan told presspersons that the police had used force against students who were only exercising their democratic rights to register their protest against Mr. Vijay for his objectionable comments against south Indians. A number of girls faced the wrath of the police and using force against them was extremely condemnable. Condemning the continued war of words between the Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi and the government, he said the administration had come to a standstill.
