Narrow escape for inpatients as fire breaks out at hospital

As many as five inpatients had a narrow escape when a fire broke out in the MRI scan centre on the first floor of Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital in Annamalai University in Chidambaram on Sunday. Police sources said that as many as 20 inverter batteries in the scan centre were completely destroyed. The incident occurred when an inverter battery in the scan centre caught fire due to an electric short-circuit. Hospital staff noticed thick some emanating from the centre, immediately shifted the inpatients in the adjacent Intensive Care Unit to a different ward and alerted the Fire and Rescue Services personnel. Fire tenders from Chidambaram rushed to the spot and put out the fire.
