Funds to UT up by 613%: Amit Shah

Narayanasamy could accomplish when he was the Union Minister in the previous UPA Government. Addressing a professionals’ convention, Mr. Shah said: “Our intention is to make Puducherry the most developed Union Territory (in the country).” Mr. Shah, who is on a two-day visit here as part of his 110-day tour of the country, said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had increased financial support by nearly 613% to Puducherry in the last three years. Accusing the administration of being corrupt, he said: “I have never seen an administration that is as corrupt as the one here.” Listing the achievements of the NDA in the last three years, he said that all sections of people, including Dalits, youths, women, and Scheduled Tribes have been extended the benefits under 106 schemes. Claiming that demonetisation had checked black money, Mr. Shah said that steps had been taken by the government to combat corruption at all levels. The flow of black money from Cyprus, Mauritius, and Singapore into the country had been checked. “The opposition cannot level any charge of corruption against the NDA. We are functioning on the basis of law,” he said. Earlier, Mr. Shah was accorded a rousing reception by BJP workers on his arrival at the Puducherry Airport. BJP Puducherry unit president V. Saminathan and leaders of various wings received him. Motorcycle rally He participated in a motorcycle rally that went through various parts of the city and garlanded the statue of Subramaniya Bharathi near the Raj Nivas. He attended a series of party programmes and meetings with office-bearers of the State unit of the BJP. National secretary H. Raja and Union Minister for State for Shipping Pon. Radhakrishnan were present. Mr. Shah will visit Auroville and Tiruvannamalai temple on Tuesday.
