The Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) on Thursday announced that counselling for MBBS seats will commence on Friday (July 21) afternoon as per the schedule notified on their website www.centaconline.in. It announced the merit list for the biology-based degree courses (including MBBS and BDS), B.Tech, B.Pharm, B.Sc (Agriculture and Horticulture), B.A., LLB and lateral entry (engineering) on Thursday. Details on website The merit list has been uploaded on the website www.centaconline.in. A press release issued by the Centac stated that objections may be submitted before 1 p.m. on Friday. The Pondicherry UT All Centac Students Parents Association has raised objection for not providing sufficient time to students to prepare for counselling. “How will the students from far off places like Karaikal, Yanam or Mahe come for counselling if the announcement is made a day before the counselling is scheduled? Why are they conducting the counselling in a hurry,” questioned M. Narayanassamy, the association president. He added that the delay in the release of merit list was the main problem. “Also, finalising the number of seats for Puducherry students has confused them and many have gone to other States. These students must be given a fair chance and enough time to reach the Centac campus with all necessary documents. We have requested the Centac to postpone the counselling to July 22,” he said. On Friday, counselling will be held for eligible candidates claiming seats under the category of ‘children or grandchildren of freedom fighters’ from the general merit rank 1 to 1,374; eligible candidates under the category of physically challenged persons and wards of ex-servicemen and meritorious sportspersons from sports merit rank 1 to 20. Fee Structure Meanwhile, the Health Secretary, Government of Puducherry, announced the fee structure for undergraduate courses in medical, dental colleges only on Wednesday. The order stated that the Fee Committee chaired by Justice S. Rajeswaran met on July 12 and observed that the fee fixed by the committee in its proceeding dated March 23 and communicated in order on May 19 does not make any difference between students who are admitted under the management quota and students who are admitted under the government quota. The tentative tuition fee for 2017-18 annual year for management quota and NRI quota for private self-financed medical colleges (MBBS) has been fixed at ?12 lakh and ?20 lakh respectively.
