Parties come together to protest against NEET

Participating in the demonstration, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said that NEET was anti-student and should be scrapped immediately. He said he and all his ministerial colleagues had represented to the Union Health Minister seeking exemption of Puducherry from NEET. But the Centre had introduced NEET based selection citing the Supreme Court ruling on the issue. Minister for Public Works A. Namassivayam, DMK MLA R. Siva, former minister and DMK leader S.P. Sivakumar, CPI leader Nara Kalainathan, CPI secretary R. Viswanathan, CPI(M) leaders T. Murugan, Rajangam and V. Perumal participated in the agitation.

more-in Cadre belonging to the Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi held an agitation on Wednesday in front of the Head Post Office against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Participating in the demonstration, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said that NEET was anti-student and should be scrapped immediately. Criticising the Centre for the ‘imposition’ of NEET on students aspiring to do medical course after completing Plus II under State government syllabus in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, he said the Puducherry government had already adopted a resolution seeking exemption from NEET. The government had also drafted a Bill and sent it to the Centre for approval. But no action had been taken so far. Mr. Narayanasamy said the Centre’s approach on several matters had been injurious. Demonetisation, adoption of the GST and also imposition of NEET had affected the people. He said he and all his ministerial colleagues had represented to the Union Health Minister seeking exemption of Puducherry from NEET.
