Bedi approves extension of MLAs’ tenure

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi has finally agreed to the Cabinet decision to re-appoint seven legislators as Chairmen/Chairpersons of statutory bodies. Ms. Bedi referred the Cabinet decision to MHA as she felt the re-appointment should be based on appraisal of their performance. The re-appointment had become a bone of contention between Raj Nivas and the ruling Congress after Ms. Bedi referred the Cabinet decision to MHA. Highly placed sources in the government told The Hindu that Ms. Bedi had cleared the file on re-appointment. Last month, the MHA cleared the Cabinet decision.
