PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: Soon, electric buses may start plying on the Hinjewadi-Chakan route.The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is going check the feasibility of starting electrical bus service on the route to provide eco-friendly commuting for IT professionals and industrial workers living in the city.PCMC municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar, said, “We are in the process of preparing a detailed project report for the work. In a month’s time, we will know for sure if the project can be implemented.”The electrical bus service will benefit thousands of people using the Hinjewadi-Chakan route daily to go to work. A provision for the same was made in the civic annual budget of 2018-19.”The Rajiv Gandhi Information Technology (IT) Park, spread over the villages of Hinjewadi, Maan and Marunji, is home to many national and international IT companies employing over one lakh professionals.A large number of them reside in the Wakad, Pimple Nilakh, Pimple Saudagar and Rahatni areas. Several automobile companies have set up their units at Chakan. Moreover, many small and medium scale industries are also located in and around Chakan.Chinchwad BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap told TOI, “A contractor has approached us for taking up the electrical bus service project. He will conduct a presentation on the same in a few days.”
