Pune: People arriving at the bus station outside PMC building were in for a rude shock on Monday.They were forced to wait for PMPML buses in the open as the transport utility, along with PMC, has started shifting bus sheds from the bus station to a nearby place. On Monday, the bus sheds meant for buses to Alandi, Vishrantwadi, Lohegaon, Charholi and Bopkhel were dismantled and removed.Not just commuters, even PMPML authorities were seen managing bus operations sitting on the road side.When contacted, PMPML officials said the sheds were being shifted to new place and the operation would be completed by Tuesday.The PMPML operates about 278 bus trips from the bus station outside the PMC building. All these trips will now be managed from a new bus stop located on a road adjacent to the PMC building.A civic official said the shifting of the bus shed to new location was necessary to assist ongoing work of PMC’s new administrative building. “Some more bus sheds located outside the PMC building will be shifted to new locations in a phased manner,” the official said. This claim, however, was refuted by PMPML officials who said they have not received any information about shifting of more bus sheds.Regular PMPML commuters, however, faced huge inconvenience and said the authorities should have alerted them about the shifting of the bus sheds. “The administration should display the boards to alert commuters about the new location. As of now, neither PMC nor PMPML has put any boards about the shifting of the sheds,” Subhash Deshmukh said.Sources in PMC said a plan was under consideration to decentralize bus operations in the PMC area in a phased manner.
