SC dismisses advance bail plea of DSK’s son

Pune: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a special leave petition of Shirish Kulkarni, the son of jailed developer D S Kulkarni alias DSK, challenging the Bombay high court’s June 8 order that rejected his anticipatory bail application in a Rs2,043 crore economic fraud case.The SC bench of Justice S Abdul Nazeer and Justice Indu Malhotra said in an order, “We do not find any merit in this petition. However, we were not provided with the copy and we proceeded with the arguments based on the instructions and papers of the investigating agency.”The SC disposed of the caveat in terms of the order related to Shirish’s SLP.Shirish, along with DSK and Hemanti, is among the 13 accused named in the first chargesheet filed in the case on May 17 by the Pune police. Shirish is an executive director in the group’s flagship company, D S Kulkarni Developers Limited (DSKDL), and a director in other partnership firms floated by the group.Nishant R Katneshwarkar, the state government’s standing counsel in the SC, told TOI, “We had filed a caveat in the matter today (Monday) morning and had requested the applicant’s counsel to provide us with a copy of the SLP and supporting documents.

DSK and his wife, Hemanti, arrested from Delhi on February 17, are lodged in Yerawada jail under judicial custody in relation to the case.The alleged fraud refers to siphoning of huge amounts of money raised by the DSK Group of companies through a large number of depositors, besides, secured loans from banks and financial institutions, non-convertible debentures and money collected from homebuyers in housing projects.
