Collector allots land for expansion of district court

Pune: Collector Naval Kishor Ram on Tuesday issued an order alloting 4,050sqm (1 acre) land near Golf Course in Yerawada to the Pune district and sessions court for facilitating its expansion plan.The departments for law and judiciary, urban development and finance had cleared a proposal for land allotment. It will also reduce the crowd at the Shivajinagar court,” Chavan told TOI. “The plan is to have an integrated complex for all judicial magistrate first class courts and reduce the load of visitors at the Shivajinagar court,” said Nana Chavan, former registrar of the district court. He was associated with the land identification process.“Relatives and friends of accused in criminal cases, lawyers, litigants, police and government officials constitute over 40% of the visitors at the Shivajinagar court for cases dealt by the magisterial courts. The new land is close to the Yerawada jail.

The new land is close to the Yerawada jail. It will be convenient to produce the accused at the proposed facility. It will also reduce the crowd at the Shivajinagar court,” Chavan told TOI. The plan is to have total 50 new courts, including more than 25 magisterial courts.Pune Bar Association former president Rajendra Umap said an integrated complex on the Food Corporation of India godown land near the Shivajinagar court would have been a better option.A building plan will be submitted to the civic body after the new courts’ scheme is cleared by high court. The state will allocate funds for the new building to be raised within three years.
