MahaMetro allays citizensrsquo concerns over rehabilitation

Based on the survey report, MahaMetro will finalize a rehabilitation plan, officials said.While answering questions raised by the citizens about the matter, MahaMetro officials said the process of rehabilitation or payment of compensation will take time. The corporation has initiated a baseline survey to obtain details of every property holder. It is expected that properties in Kasba Peth, Kothrud and slum pockets in Kamgar Putala area will be expected to get affected by the Metro rail project.Meanwhile, MahaMetro on Friday said the traffic snarls will soon be eased. The formula will be worked out in coordination with the state government and civic administration, officials said. Officials said 2.5 metres of the road will be utilized for the viaduct.

Pune: Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation officials on Friday assured citizens that they were preparing multiple options for the rehabilitation of those displaced by the project in the city.“Suitable options will be worked out in coordination with property owners,” the officials at an interaction session with citizens organized on Friday.MahaMetro has identified over 688 properties that will be affected by the alignment of the Metro rail project. The corporation has initiated a baseline survey to obtain details of every property holder. Based on the survey report, MahaMetro will finalize a rehabilitation plan, officials said.While answering questions raised by the citizens about the matter, MahaMetro officials said the process of rehabilitation or payment of compensation will take time. The formula will be worked out in coordination with the state government and civic administration, officials said. “Nothing is fixed at the moment. We will check if families or commercial establishments can be re-settled in the same area. We will also consider if compensation can be paid,” an official said.The baseline survey had begun in June and is expected to be complete in a few days. It is expected that properties in Kasba Peth, Kothrud and slum pockets in Kamgar Putala area will be expected to get affected by the Metro rail project.Meanwhile, MahaMetro on Friday said the traffic snarls will soon be eased. Officials said 2.5 metres of the road will be utilized for the viaduct. At the moment, the central 6m portion of the roads is being utilized for construction work. Barricades that were installed to assist in the construction will be removed after completion of the pillars and viaduct, officials aid.MahaMetro officials said sufficient space has been set aside between the Metro viaduct and properties located along the road. The properties along the road will not be affected because of the Metro, they said.MahaMetro had begun construction on the Vanaz-Civil Court stretch of the Vanaz-Ramwadi Metro line, and the Pimpri-Range Hills section of the Pimpri-Swargate corridor last year. Work has also begun on the 5km underground stretch between Range Hills and Swargate.
