Dastur Hormazdiar students get Nasa astronaut training experience

The students also visited various departments of Nasa to understand their functionality during launch of space shuttles and rockets. Pune: Four students from Sardar Dastur Hormazdiar High School with their principal, Preeti Sahni, visited the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) for the Astronaut Training Experience (ATX) during their recent educational trip to the US.The participating students included Ayush Kothari (Std X), Momin Chhagala (Std IX), Yonous Chhagala (Std VIII) and Karim Chhagala (Std VI).During ATX, the students were given a brief astronaut training and were shown 3D shows and relevant films. The two-week programme aimed at training government and private high school students in the basics of Information Technology and kindling their interest in the field.During the programme, the students developed various projects in their training period and won prizes in various categories. About 35 students from different schools in Pune were selected for the programme based on an entrance test. Principal Leena Bhosale said, “We need to serve humanity by encouraging sustainable development through judicious use of natural resources.”

The students also visited various departments of Nasa to understand their functionality during launch of space shuttles and rockets. They also had the experience of the simulated Mars environment in zero gravity and food/ fruits packaging for space missions.The students were awarded with certificates and T-shirts at the end of the programme.Understanding role of software professionalsSix class VIII students of Dr Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Ganeshnagar, recently completed their training at Infosys, under the Spark Catch Them Young (CTY) initiative. About 35 students from different schools in Pune were selected for the programme based on an entrance test. The two-week programme aimed at training government and private high school students in the basics of Information Technology and kindling their interest in the field.During the programme, the students developed various projects in their training period and won prizes in various categories. Avanti Kulkarni from KHS, Ganeshnagar said, “It helped me step into the shoes of a software engineer. Eating in the canteen with my friends among 1,000 other employees and wandering on the campus were the most pleasurable experiences. This programme has made me realize that software engineering is about problem-solving, design thinking and other life skills as well.”Concerns raised about population explosionStudents of class VII from City International School, Satara Road, organized a special assembly on the occasion of World Population Day recently where they highlighted the challenges associated with an ever-growing global society.The students expressed their concern and care for the healthy growth and safety of humans. Principal Leena Bhosale said, “We need to serve humanity by encouraging sustainable development through judicious use of natural resources.”
