History of Indian Ocean lectures at Pune varsity

Pune: Kenneth R Hall of the Ball State University, US will be teaching a course on the history of the Indian Ocean c.100-1600 at Savitribai Phule Pune University.This course will be a part of the department of history’s elective course on maritime history of India. Kenneth is with the SPPU’s department of history as a Fulbright Scholar.This course is open to registered students of SPPU.The classes will be held every week on Wednesday and Thursday from 2pm to 4pm every week.The students can call the department of history during office hours at 25601316/17 for more information, the department’s official notification said.The lectures will be conducted for 12 weeks. At the end of the course, the students will have to give their research paper presentations in the last week.The students can also check the announcement section of the university to understand the syllabus which Kenneth will be teaching.A few of the topics in the syllabus include— introduction, Indian Ocean historiography, early maritime eastern and western Indian Ocean, textile, spices, horses, iron and other commodity flow, surviving written sources, archeological remains, Chinese sources, cultural transfers, coming of Islam to the Malacca Straits region of maritime southeast Asia, pre-1500 Indian Ocean ports of trade, among others, the official notification said.
