PUNE: A bike-borne duo stole a one-month-old Jack Russell terrier puppy worth Rs 60,000 from Bhavani Peth on Wednesday afternoon.The owner of the dog, Dhairyasheel Patil (36) of Mangaldas Road has lodged a complaint with the Khadak police . When contacted, Patil told TOI that about a month ago he had purchased the puppy of an imported Jack Russell terrier for Rs 60,000.He said that his house is currently undergoing renovation. The youth had kept the stolen dog in a house in upper Indiranagar in Bibvewadi. I brought the puppy with me as the puppy was unwell and had an upset stomach,” Patil said.After entering the timber shop in the market, Patil kept the puppy near the trader’s office. “While I was discussing some matters with the owner, I got a call on my cellphone. Around the same time, the puppy walked out of the shop. As we have trained the puppy not to urinate inside the house, I thought the puppy might have gone outside to urinate and so I kept talking on my cellphone,” Patil said.Patil said that the call ended in less than a minute. “I immediately went out of the shop to check on the puppy and found that the puppy was missing,” Patil said.A tempo driver who was waiting outside the shop told Patil that a bike-borne man and woman had fled with the dog. “The tempo driver told me that the woman, who was riding pillion on the two-wheeler, picked-up the dog and they fled towards Ramoshigate chowk,” Patil said.Patil said that the person also told him the man seemed to be about 40 years of age, while the woman seemed to be 35 years old. “I immediately went to the Khadak police and lodged a complaint,” Patil said adding, “It’s an imported breed and they require special care.”An officer from the Khadak police told TOI, “We have obtained the footage from the CCTV cameras in the area. However, the images captured by the cameras are not clear. We have launched a search for the duo,” the officer said.Recent caseThe Khadak police on May 16 had arrested a 19-year-old youth from Bhavani Peth for his involvement in the theft of a Yorkshire Terrier dog worth Rs 2 lakh from a pet shop in Kothurd on May 1. The youth had kept the stolen dog in a house in upper Indiranagar in Bibvewadi.
