Shivneri bus breakdown sparks fourhour snarl on Dehu Road

PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: A Mumbai bound Shivneri bus broke down on Dehu Road on Thursday morning, causing a 4km-long traffic jam that lasted nearly four hours. It was scheduled to reach Dadar at 2pm, but broke down at Dehu Road,” an official of the Maharahstra State Road Transport Corporation said. “A flyover is being constructed in the middle of the road where the bus broke down. The ST bus was taken away in the afternoon with the help of a crane.”“Shivneri bus number 9266 left the Pune station bus depot at 10.01am for Dadar, with 10 passengers on board. TheAccording to residents, the bus broke down around 10.30am at Hotel Savanna Chowk, past the railway overbridge on the service road of the Pune-Mumbai highway.

As a result, the pile-up stretched as far back as Bhakti Shakti Chowk in Nigdi,” Suryakant Surve, a resident of Dehu Road, said.Local residents and volunteers helped the police divert and control the traffic on the highway. The situation was made worse when vehicles coming from Nigdi attempted to drive on the wrong side. “This a jam on the other side of the highway too, till Central chowk near Dehu Road police station,” Surve said.Senior inspector Prakash Dhas of Dehu Road police station said, “We deployed at least six policemen to control and diverting the traffic. Mumbai-bound traffic was diverted through Shitalanagar onto the Dehu Road-Katraj bypass. Vehicles going from Mumbai and Talegaon towards Pune on the highway were diverted from Central Chowk to the bypass.
