15 wardens to help cops streamline Chakan traffic

If police appoint their personnel here, the situation can be controlled,” Batwal added.Police inspector Dhananjay Godse of Chakan told TOI, “ We have started pulling out records of criminals involved in industries-related crimes. “The Marriott junction, Mahindra circle and Talawade IT Park junction are where commuters often do not follow traffic rules and drive haphazardly. It was chaired by deputy superintendent of police Ram Pathare (Khed division).The FCI is an independent body and works for industrial welfare.

PUNE: Traffic jams in Chakan will be regulated by 15 wardens. Private industries based in the MIDC area and the Federation of Chakan Industries have decided to provide the manpower to assist police in the industrial town.As many as 80 representatives of various companies, including multinationals, attended the meeting last week. It was chaired by deputy superintendent of police Ram Pathare (Khed division).The FCI is an independent body and works for industrial welfare. Dilip Batwal , secretary of FCI, told TOI, “Traffic is an issue here. It was talked about extensively at the industries–police meeting and unanimously decided that more wardens will be provided by the industries to man the traffic at various junctions.”Police and FCI have identified three main junctions where traffic congestion is observed daily. “The Marriott junction, Mahindra circle and Talawade IT Park junction are where commuters often do not follow traffic rules and drive haphazardly. If police appoint their personnel here, the situation can be controlled,” Batwal added.Police inspector Dhananjay Godse of Chakan told TOI, “ We have started pulling out records of criminals involved in industries-related crimes. Keeping an eye on their activities will help. We are making a comprehensive plan to mitigate the situation. We will deploy extra policemen along with the wardens. We have decided to launch traffic drives to penalise violators so that people will follow traffic rules here.”Police said the Chakan-Talegaon stretch needs to be widened immediately as it does not offer adequate carriageway to heavy vehicles. This situation has led to congestion and fatal accidents.According to police records, over 50 fatal accidents have been reported in the past few years on this stretch.
