Monsoon break over brace for heavy spells

Sindhudurg district may witness heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places till July 24, except July 23, when it may witness heavy, isolated rain.Moderate rain is when the rain recorded is between 15.6mm and 64.4mm, while heavy rain is when the rain is between 64.5mm to 115.5mm. They said Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada have become almost dry, and mainly south Konkan has experienced moderate to heavy rain.On July 23, IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over districts Palghar, Raigad and Thane, while it has forecast heavy rain at isolated places over Mumbai and Ratnagiri district on that day.

This weather system will bring rain, the official said.“The low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Odisha coasts has become a well-marked low pressure area. It lies over the same region with associated cyclonic circulation tilting southwest wards with height. This is likely to cause heavy to very rains at isolated places over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha. Also, the feeble offshore trough from Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast, which now runs from south Maharashtra coast to north Kerala coast, may bring rains over south Maharashtra,” he said.The met department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy showers at isolated places over Vidarbha, Konkan-Goa and heavy rains at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra on July 21 and July 22. It has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa on July 23 and 24.Sources from Skymet Weather Services said along with the cyclonic circulation persisting over South Gujarat , an offshore trough extending from Maharashtra to coastal Kerala, will cause moderate to heavy rains over south Konkan.They said a fresh low-pressure area has formed over Odisha and West Bengal. “This weather system is likely to move in a westerly direction towards Madhya Pradesh. “By July 22, heavy to very heavy rains may occur over Vidarbha and one or two places of Madhya Maharashtra as well,” a source from the private weather forecaster said.On July 20, the southwest monsoon was normal over Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan, but weak over Vidarbha and Marathwada. However, the rainfall intensity has come down over most parts of the state over a few days, though skies have been cloudy. On Friday, four stations in Konkan-Goa and Madhya Maharashtra received heavy rains — Mhasla, Sangameshwar Devrukh and Surgana at 70mm each and Gaganbawada at 60mm.Skymet sources said rain has reduced significantly over the state as the regions that once witnessed heavy to extremely heavy showers are now experiencing light to moderate rain. They said Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada have become almost dry, and mainly south Konkan has experienced moderate to heavy rain.On July 23, IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over districts Palghar, Raigad and Thane, while it has forecast heavy rain at isolated places over Mumbai and Ratnagiri district on that day.
