State opposes bail applications of Surendra Gadling amp Shoma Sen

Apart from Gadling and Sen, the other three activists, Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson and Mahesh Raut were also produced before judge Vadane on Friday evening. Pune: District government pleader (DGP) Ujjwala Pawar on Friday filed separate written says on behalf of the Pune police opposing the bail pleas of activists Surendra Gadling and Shoma Sen in the Elgar Parishad probe case.Both, Gadling and Sen, were part of the five activists arrested on June 6 for their suspected links with the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit. The SC is to hear the matter on September 17. The bail matters were expected to be heard on Friday but, the proceedings could start only around 5pm.Lawyers Siddhartha Patil and Shahid Akhtar, representing the activists, filed their respective written say on the prison department's plea seeking transfer of the activists to different jails.Meanwhile, Gadling also sought the court's permission for filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court in support of an intervention plea filed by his wife seeking parity for the five activists with the other five activists, who were arrested on August 28 but are placed under house arrest following the Apex court's interim order.

The Pune police has claimed that the CPI (Maoist) provided funds and support for the Elgar Parishad held at Shanivarwada in Pune, a day before the January 1 clashes at Koregaon Bhima It is the police’s case that provocative speeches made at the Parishad contributed to the clashes and the same were part of a larger conspiracy by the banned outfit to create social unrest and overthrow democratically-elected government.Additional sessions judge K D Vadane posted for September 27 the hearing of the two bail pleas as well as an application by the state prisons department for transfer of the five activists to different jails.
