Pune Municipal Corporation to pay Rs 185 crore for Chandni Chowk project

PUNE: The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has given approval to pay around Rs 185 crore for land acquisition for the Chandni chowk flyover . So the decision to use the funds available in civic coffers has been taken. It may take some time, so in the meantime the money available with the PMC will be utilised. PMC will make the funds available as a stop gap arrangement. It has been approved," said an official of PMC.The official added, "The time needed for getting the money from state government may delay the remaining acquisition process.

PUNE: The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has given approval to pay around Rs 185 crore for land acquisition for the Chandni chowk flyover . PMC will make the funds available as a stop gap arrangement."The funds will be given as a temporary arrangement. The aim is to make sure that properties are acquired smoothly. These funds will be compensated as and when the state government transfers the money to the civic body," said Yogesh Mulik, chairman of the standing committee, while speaking to reporters.As per the PMC officials, the state Urban Development Department (UDD) has shown willingness to provide Rs 185 crore to complete the pending land acquisition for the project in the western part of Pune. But a legal process will have to be completed before handing over the money to PMC. It may take some time, so in the meantime the money available with the PMC will be utilised."The process to acquire land and other properties for this project is underway. Nearly 40% acquisition has been completed. Many property owners want cash compensation so we have had demanded more money from state government. It has been approved," said an official of PMC.The official added, "The time needed for getting the money from state government may delay the remaining acquisition process. So the decision to use the funds available in civic coffers has been taken."The Chandni chowk is a major entry point on NH-4 from the western part of the city and as many as 1.60 lakh vehicles pass through this junction per day.
