PUNE: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule on Tuesday said the state government should be held responsible for any accident caused by potholes even as PWD minister Chandrakant Patil vowed to resolve the problem after Ganeshotsav. After her year-long “selfie with potholed roads” campaign, Sule said the situation has not improved and the condition on the road near Bopdev ghat was one such example. “I visited the same spot at Bopdev ghat last year. The condition is same this year too,” she told TOI.Sule has been for the past year sharing selfies with potholes on various social media platforms and tagging the chief minister’s office. The NCP leader said she has not yet heard from the chief minister’s office on the issue. “I am yet to hear from the public works department (PWD) as well on the repair work,” she said. The PWD recently claimed to have attended to nearly 60% of the roads in the state. It stated that over 70% potholed roads in Mumbai, 67.96% in the Pune region, 44% in Nashik , 48% in Aurangabad, 57% in Amravati and nearly 70% in the Nagpur regions have been attended to.Patil admitted to “some delay” in repairing the potholes across the state, but said the work will be taken up after Ganeshotsav and completed by December. The PWD minister told TOI that the annual maintenance contract was done last year and all officials in the department have been asked to complete the work at the earliest.Citizens, on the other hand, said the roads continued to be in a pathetic condition everywhere. Complaints are flooding offices of the local area authorities even as the potholes repaired in the run-up to monsoon have been damaged again by the incessant rain during the last few months. The PWD data revealed that Pune topped the list of cities in the state with damaged roads. Of the 21,312km road network, 13,742km of roads in Pune were damaged. Nashik was in the second position with 10,442km of damaged roads.Of the 43,830 km of potholed roads in the state, the government has attended to 25,384km. PWD officials said the rest of roads will be repaired after Ganeshotsav.
