Garbage piles up in Wagholi

First they should have solved the garbage collection problem and later gone for their new project. Even as they cope every day with bad roads and severe traffic issues, their life has now been blessed with putrefying garbage. All the work here is done without any planning.”District collector Naval Kishore Ram, however, announced on Wednesday that two acres of land will be soon allotted for garbage dumping and the work should begin soon.

Even as they cope every day with bad roads and severe traffic issues, their life has now been blessed with putrefying garbage. The ordeal began around 10 days ago, when the, unable to manage garbage from all the residential buildings and households, started dumping it in open spaces, as a last resort. The problem got worse since the procedure of bringing up a new garbage unit is underway.On Wednesday, a group of people belonging to the Wagholi Housing Society Association came together to take the issue with higher authorities and have written formally to the(MPCB), the chief minister’s office, the district collector and other top officials with a request for intervention and much-needed relief in the garbage dumping issue.The formal letter written by them states, “With great anguish, we the residents of Wagholi are writing to inform you that we are facing severe garbage dumping issues in the last few weeks. The Wagholi gram panchayat is clearly washing its hands off the garbage issue claiming that they do not have any place to collect and dump residential garbage.”Wagholi, Sandip Satav, speaking to Mirror, said, “There is some work going on with the garbage unit and as of now there is no space to dump the garbage. The work is likely to be completed in another month and till then we are planning to look for an alternative patch where the garbage can be disposed of. According to them,Road, Bakori Road, Baif Road, Kesanand Road, Awhalwadi Road and Nagar Road have lately become the new spots for dumping garbage and it has now become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other vectors, bringing along viral infections and foul smell that has left everyone around irate.Nitin Kumar Jain, a resident of Ivy Estate and a member of Wagholi Housing Society Association, said, “The Swachh Bharat campaign is a complete flop in Wagholi. We did not expect that the garbage will be left scattered all over the place and along the arterial road especially during this festive season. We have written to the authorities and now are awaiting a positive reply.”Another resident, Harcharanjeet Butalia, said, “The biggest question that remains is why they stopped the garbage collection process when the problem was not resolved. First they should have solved the garbage collection problem and later gone for their new project.
