Engineers to speed up land acquisition for flyover project

Pune: The corporation has formed a special team of 21 engineers to speed up the land acquisition process for the Chandni Chowk flyover.A senior official of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said, “Special efforts are needed to complete the land acquisition. So, we decided to deploy additional workforce.”The team of engineers will ensure that the required land and properties are acquired.According to the civic officials, the delay in land acquisition is creating obstacles in the execution of the flyover project. The land acquisition was delayed because of lack of money. But now, the funds have been made available to speed up the process.A PMC official said the land acquisition for the flyover should be completed in less than a month. More civic officials and experts are needed to complete the process.

But now, the funds have been made available to speed up the process.A PMC official said the land acquisition for the flyover should be completed in less than a month. The civic body has set a deadline of October 15 to complete the process.The standing committee of the PMC has given approval to pay around Rs185 crore for land acquisition for the Chandni Chowk flyover. The civic body will make the funds available as a stopgap arrangement.“Many property owners getting affected because of the project want cash compensation. The funds will be made available to ensure money does not affect the acquisition process,” said Yogesh Mulik, the chairman of the PMC standing committee.According to the PMC officials, the civic body will soon get the required funds from the state urban development department. The department has given in-principle approval to disburse the funds. The transfer will take place once the legal process regarding it is complete.Chandni Chowk on National Highway 4 is a major entry point to the city. As many as 1.6 lakh vehicles pass through this junction every day. Nearly 15 hectares of land and 100 properties have to be acquired for constructing the flyover. The flat owners have been given around Rs50 lakh to Rs1.2 crore, based on the size of their property.
