Pune Municipal Corporation chikungunya Deepak Sawant Oseltamivir (PMC) commissioner Saurabh Rao has written to the district collector, requesting him to issue orders to private hospitals across the district to provide free treatment to swine flu patients with weak economic backgrounds.The fall in temperature has given rise to a number of swine flu cases across the district and most government-run hospitals are running full due to the rise in cases of flu-like illness, dengue and. In such cases, patients have no option but to go to private hospitals for treatment.Earlier, a meeting was held between officials of local bodies and the health department in which health minister Drtold them to make arrangements for free treatment of swine flu patients from the deprived class. Following this, Rao has written to district collector Naval Kishore Ram to make arrangements and issue orders to the private hospitals. PMC assistant health chief Dr Anjali Sabne said, “Patients who are suffering from suspicious symptoms of swine flu are administered(tami-flu) immediately but if they are diagnosed late, their condition gets critical and they have to be hospitalised. As the charges at private hospitals are huge, the letter has been written.”Ram said, “We already have a scheme where people from the deprived class are treated in private hospitals for swine flu and the cost of treatment is reimbursed to them. We have also informed private hospitals to provide free treatment to swine flu patients. Since the letter has been received, we will once again issue similar instructions to the hospitals.”
