18 ghats artificial tanks for immersion of idols in Pune

“Since the last few years there has been a rise in the immersion of idols in makeshift tanks. The department has also appealed to citizens who have cough and cold to stay away from the procession. The control rooms have been established at every ward office and on prominent roads identified for processions. We have made additional tanks for the benefit of the people,” the official said.The processions of the Ganesh mandals are expected to begin in the morning and are likely to continue till late at night. PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation has identified 18 major ghats along the river and has also constructed temporary tanks across the city and close to these ghats for the immersion of Ganesh idols.The administration said that elaborate arrangements were in place across the city to ensure smooth processions and immersion.The civic body will deploy staff round the clock at the immersion spots.

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation has identified 18 major ghats along the river and has also constructed temporary tanks across the city and close to these ghats for the immersion of Ganesh idols.The administration said that elaborate arrangements were in place across the city to ensure smooth processions and immersion.The civic body will deploy staff round the clock at the immersion spots. The administration has appealed to citizens to use the makeshift tanks and hand over the flowers and offerings (nirmalya) at the nirmalya collection facilities.The PMC has deployed 18 controllers at each ghat and around 130 rescuers to keep a check on incidents of drowning. Instructions have been issued to take necessary precautions while immersing the idols in the river or other waterbodies.A PMC official said, “Lakhs of residents in the city celebrate the Ganesh festival at home and they immerse the idols on the last day. The civic administration has made arrangements for the citizens to ensure the idol immersion takes place smoothly.”The official added that the citizens can approach the controllers at the ghats or at the zonal offices if they face any hardships. “Since the last few years there has been a rise in the immersion of idols in makeshift tanks. A separate team of health officials and medical practitioners will be available at every prominent road,” the official added.PMC’s health department has appealed to the citizens to not use gulal or even environment-friendly gulal during the procession. The department has also appealed to citizens who have cough and cold to stay away from the procession.
