Single security hold area at airport for hasslefree flying

With both the security hold areas merged, there would be less hassles for passengers.”Another official said, “All the eight gates at the airport will be easily approachable for the passengers now.”Passengers have doubts though. In SHA II, we had two x-ray machines, one booth for frisking women and two for men.

PUNE: The two security holds of the city airport would be merged into one on Saturday to clip the hassles of flyers.Ajay Kumar, the director of the Pune airport , said, “The situation in terms of passenger facilities will be much better after the merger. Things, we believe, will be more organized after the common security check area becomes functional.”There have been two security hold areas (SHAs) on the ground floor of the airport till now. One catered to the passengers of SpiceJet , GoAir and Air Asia. The other is for the flyers of IndiGo Jet Airways and Vistara . An airport official said, “Both the SHAs will be merged and a common security check area will start functioning at the ground floor itself from Saturday.”He said, “We had three x-ray machines, two frisking booths for women and four for men in the SHA I. They were for the international and domestic passengers of Air India, Jet Airways, Vistara and IndiGo. In SHA II, we had two x-ray machines, one booth for frisking women and two for men. These were for the passengers of Go Air, Air Asia and Spice Jet. Now, we shall bring the SHA II towards the departure area and have six x-ray machines, two frisking booths for women and seven for men.”The senior official said it would be easier to manage things after the changes are made. “The CISF is in proper coordination with us. With both the security hold areas merged, there would be less hassles for passengers.”Another official said, “All the eight gates at the airport will be easily approachable for the passengers now.”Passengers have doubts though. “Is there any guarantee that the common SHA will be good for passengers and things will not be as chaotic as they are, particularly during the late evening hours? I hope that the airline officials and the CISF personnel are ready to take on all the load at one go,” Vidya Bhosle, a frequent flyer, told TOI.The airport has 200 arrivals and departures every day at present. After the winter schedule starts, a total of 30 more flights will be added.
