Water lines in PCMC to be regularized

Civic officials expect to earn around Rs70 crore through this plan.Owners of illegal buildings who do not pay water charges will be told to pay 10% of the annual charges as a fine. Pimpri Chinchwad: Illegal water connections for domestic users and in the slum areas in Pimpri Chinchwad will be regularized by December 31, 2018.For each group connection (of five families), an amount of Rs 540 would be taxed for the year 2018-19. A deposit of Rs 1,500 and Rs 500 as a penalty will also be charged, municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar said. For a connection in the slum areas, Rs 900 will be taxed.The state government had issued directives to all municipal corporations to regularize water connections that were set up between April 1, 2012, and December 31, 2015.

If water tax has not been paid or connection was temporarily stopped, citizens will have to submit a separate application for a brand new connection, which will be set up within two days.There is a separate policy for slum dwellers.
