Passport police verification time down to 8 days

PUNE: The city police’s special branch has brought down the police verification time for passports to an average of eight days from the stipulated period of 21 days, as of October 16.As per the regional passport officer (RPO) of Pune, Anant Takwale , the verification period would reduce further by the end of the month. The officers have been going to people’s houses for verification and following up in case the residents are not available at home.”He said, “We have launched an incentive system for constables verifying applications within seven days.” Along with the request for two new dongles for the Pune police, we have sought two dongles for the Pimpri Chinchwad police. “As of now, the Pune police continue to verify the applications from Pimpri Chinchwad. Once they arrive, it will start verifying the applications of the residents in its area,” he said.Speaking about the impact of the reduction in the time period, Takwale said, “With the verification period down to eight days, the applicants will be issued passports within 12 to 15 days from the date of appointment for normal applications.

The dongle enables the police to access data and applications forwarded by the Passport Seva Kendras, and send the verification reports to the RPO,” he said, adding that the police had two dongles at present.The city police commissioner, K Venkatesham , had announced just a fortnight ago that the verification period was brought down to 11 days.Takwale said the formation of a new police commissionerate in Pimpri Chinchwad would also contribute to the reduction of the police verification period. “As of now, the Pune police continue to verify the applications from Pimpri Chinchwad. Along with the request for two new dongles for the Pune police, we have sought two dongles for the Pimpri Chinchwad police. Once they arrive, it will start verifying the applications of the residents in its area,” he said.Speaking about the impact of the reduction in the time period, Takwale said, “With the verification period down to eight days, the applicants will be issued passports within 12 to 15 days from the date of appointment for normal applications. The issuance period is around a week for those opting for post-police verification.”Ashok Morale, the deputy commissioner of police (special branch), said, “The reduction in the verification time was possible because of regular follow-ups. The officers have been going to people’s houses for verification and following up in case the residents are not available at home.”He said, “We have launched an incentive system for constables verifying applications within seven days.”
