Tuesday hits ‘normal’ note after warm Oct nights

In the more recent past, 12°C was recorded on October 30, 2016.Pune has also been recording high day temperatures at Shivajinagar and Lohegaon. However, in the past couple of days, the humidity level has been below normal in the city. PUNE: The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 18.1°C — the lowest this season — on Tuesday.With this, the minimum temperature, which was hovering around an unusually high 20°C mark a few nights ago, finally settled to what is considered “normal” for this time of the year in Pune.Before October 16, the city’s minimum temperatures were “above normal”. “On Tuesday, it dipped slightly to 33.8°C at Shivajinagar from Monday’s 34.1°C, mainly because of the partly cloudy sky.

PUNE: The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 18.1°C — the lowest this season — on Tuesday.With this, the minimum temperature, which was hovering around an unusually high 20°C mark a few nights ago, finally settled to what is considered “normal” for this time of the year in Pune.Before October 16, the city’s minimum temperatures were “above normal”. However, in the past couple of days, the humidity level has been below normal in the city. This has caused the mercury to spike during the day and fall at night.While on Monday, the minimum temperature dropped to 18.6°C — the second lowest in the post-monsoon season this year — on Tuesday morning, it had lost another 0.5°C to be the coolest yet in October 2018. Before October 15 and 16, minimum temperatures on most days had been above the normal levels.Though minimum temperature has dipped to “normal” in Pune, past years have recorded lower minimums in October.According to the long-term data available with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in 2008, 11.6°C was the lowest minimum temperature recorded in October. In the more recent past, 12°C was recorded on October 30, 2016.Pune has also been recording high day temperatures at Shivajinagar and Lohegaon. At both these locations, day temperatures have been above normal by more than a degree or two over the past few days.A Met department official said that less humidity and clear skies during the day have caused the maximum temperature to spike. “On Tuesday, it dipped slightly to 33.8°C at Shivajinagar from Monday’s 34.1°C, mainly because of the partly cloudy sky. Some of the cloudiness has been a result of moisture coming in due to a cyclonic circulation extending over south Madhya Maharashtra and its neighbouring areas,” he added.
