Civic body launches affordable eye hospital

PUNE: The civic body on Sunday launched the Dattatray Walse Patil Eye Hospital in Bopodi, on a public-private partnership with Vision Next Foundation.The hospital will be operational within 15 days and will offer eye care services at 70% less charge than private facilities.Vision Next Foundation foundation is a consortium of leading eye specialists, anaesthetists and technicians. The hospital is mainly a day care centre but has provision of 12 beds for patients if hospitalization is needed. The foundation was selected through a tendering process carried out two years ago.Former Union minister Sharad Pawar inaugurated the hospital. We have installed advanced machinery to carry out these procedures.”The centre will also provide specialized services for diagnostic and interventional procedures in all sorts of eye-related ailments.“The eye hospital takes care of all sorts of eye ailments under one roof at extremely affordable rates. The same surgery costs more than Rs1 lakh in a private set-up.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) building on Bhau Patil Road, which was lying idle for the last 15 years, has been used for the hospital.Spread over 10,000square feet, the facility will cater to all patients at 7% less than the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rates, irrespective of their financial status.Eye surgeon and founder-chairman of the hospital Ambarish Darak said, “High-end laser vision correction surgery will be for Rs35,000 at this hospital. The same surgery costs more than Rs1 lakh in a private set-up. We have installed advanced machinery to carry out these procedures.”The centre will also provide specialized services for diagnostic and interventional procedures in all sorts of eye-related ailments.“The eye hospital takes care of all sorts of eye ailments under one roof at extremely affordable rates. People from all walks of life, suffering from any eye problem, can avail the benefits of the services,” a PMC assistant medical officer of health Sanjeev Wavare said.As per the public private partnership, the PMC has provided the space and will provide electricity and water for free, while Vision Next Foundation will run the facility and take care of consumables and other medical paraphernalia, including installing equipments The contract with the private partner is for 30 years. The hospital is mainly a day care centre but has provision of 12 beds for patients if hospitalization is needed.
