PUNE: The state forest minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Thursday asked the district administration to fix a timeline to help execute the development plan for Bhimashankar.The state authorities have drafted a Rs 148.73 crore-plan to develop visitor-friendly facilities in Bhimashankar. The representatives of the Bhimashankar temple committee pointed out that thousands of private vehicles visit the area every day and lack of proper parking facilities was leading to chaos. Research books have pointed that bonsai is an Indian art,” Mungantiwar said. The protected forest area has one of 12 Jyotirlingas across the country.Mungantiwar held a review meeting, attended by officials from the district administration, forest department, MSRTC and Public Works Department, at the council hall. Expressing disappointment over the slow pace of execution, the minister asked officials to speed up work.Major works proposed under the plan include deployment of 40 midibuses for local travel, development of parking bays, relocation of existing shops and sheds, provision of drinking water facilities and development of tourist spots.The district administration claimed that many works were at various stages of execution and were expected to be completed by March 2019. The representatives of the Bhimashankar temple committee pointed out that thousands of private vehicles visit the area every day and lack of proper parking facilities was leading to chaos. The representatives demanded that at minimum a 3-hectare plot be developed into a parking bay and to shift the shops.The minister also asked MSRTC to explore the possibility of introducing battery-operated midibuses in the area as part of an eco-friendly initiative.
