Pune: Unemployed man held for attacking cop

His family members also reached the chowkey and urged police not to take any action against him.

PUNE: The Faraskhana police have arrested an unemployed man for attacking a beat marshal with a stick at Shahir Amar Shaikh Chowk at Gadital.A sizeable crowd had gathered at the spot when the man, Ajinkya Ram Beldar (26) from Mangalwar Peth, picked up a fight with a friend over a previous dispute around 4.45pm on Sunday.On receiving information, beat marshal Amit Sampat Pawar rushed to the spot and started dispersing the crowd. He asked Beldar and his friend to visit the Gadital police chowkey and lodge complaints.Beldar then picked up a dispute with Pawar and identified himself as "bhai" (local goon). He threatened the beat marshal with dire consequences and said he would take a revenge whenever he found him in civil dress.As Pawar tried to pacify him, the youth snatched the "lathi" from him and attacked him. He overpowered Beldar and snatched the the stick back.Sub-inspector (Faraskhana police station) Yashpal Suryavanshi from said, "Two more policemen rushed to the spot and brought the suspect to the chowkey. But he created a ruckus and tried to flee. Beldar was again taken into custody and brought to the chowkey."Suryavanshi added that Beldar did not attack other policemen, apart from the beat marshal, present at the spot. His family members also reached the chowkey and urged police not to take any action against him.
