AICTE recognizes 3 Pune colleges for best practices in education

PUNE: The College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP), the Army Institute of Technology (AIT) and the AISSMS Institute of Information Technology are among the 30 institutes in the country the AICTE recognized for conducting best practices in education.The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) selected the colleges so that other institutions across the country could replicate their various initiatives to improve the education quality.The AICTE, the regulator for technical education in India, invited proposals from its recognized institutes to share their best practices. The departments are also mandated to invite an industry expert to co-teach at least one course in a semester. “Last year, we had decided to practice waste management and now we are a zero-garbage institute,” Patil said. The institute took various initiatives for energy conservation, use of renewable energy , water harvesting, carbon neutrality by installing solar panels and evaluating e-waste management.The CoEP focused more on best academic practices, which includes major revision in curriculum every four years. This practice will ensure continuous improvements in their performance.”Mane said when the employees and students were motivated to work on their skills and abilities at higher levels, the institute runs more efficiently.

Out of the 30 shortlisted institutes, eight are from Maharashtra , including the three from Pune.Pradeep Mane, the principal of AISSMS Institute of Information Technology, said, “The goal of appreciating the work done by the teaching and non-teaching staff, and students, was to motivate them to excel in their areas of expertise. This practice will ensure continuous improvements in their performance.”Mane said when the employees and students were motivated to work on their skills and abilities at higher levels, the institute runs more efficiently. For this reason, the institute understood the power of reward systems and believed that they were helpful in influencing the behaviour of students and staffers.B P Patil, the AIT principal, said their focus was on maintaining a green campus. “Last year, we had decided to practice waste management and now we are a zero-garbage institute,” Patil said.
