NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will start repairing potholes on receiving complaints from citizens soon. Proposed six years ago, the civic body now plans to launch a call centre to receive complaints related to potholes, and get them repaired through Road Jetpatcher.Standing committee headed by Virendra Kukreja on Tuesday announced the call centre linking to Road Jetpatcher operator. “It is a good model to solve the issue of potholes. We will incorporate a condition of responding to call centre and repairing potholes in the tendering process for the Road Jetpatcher,” he said.In 2012, the then standing committee chairman Dayashankar Tiwari had roped in Road Jetpatcher with the concept of repairing potholes on complaints by citizens. But, while the Road Jetpatcher was launched, the call centre was not started. Engineers of 10 zones and from Hot Mix Department used to identify potholes and get them repaired through Road Jetpatcher. Works of around Rs23 crore were executed through Road Jetpatcher in last six years. Now, the standing committee approved works of Rs5 crore through Road Jetpatcher over a period of one year. Tendering process will start off soon to appoint a private agency for engaging the machine. The standing committee also decided to seek Rs350 crore from the state government for repairs and widening of all nullahs in the city.Kukreja said guardian minister Chandrashekar Bawankule assured to approve the Rs350 crore through the government. “I have directed assistant commissioners of all 10 zones to prepare proposals and submit on or before December 17. Many nullahs require repairing and widening. Major problem of the city will be resolved if funds are approved for repair and widening of the nullahs,” he said. The standing committee also approved continuation of Nuisance Detection Squad comprising 44 personnel for another 11 months.Kukreja said he warned the health department to avoid taking decisions before approval of the standing committee. “We are supposed to continue services of Nuisance Detection Squad. But the health department continued the services first, and then approached the standing committee for approval. This practice is not good so all officials were directed to stop neglecting standing committee’s permission before taking decisions,” he said.Kukreja said Nuisance Detection Squad will also be given the responsibility to ensure there are no new encroachments across the city. “Assistant commissioners have been asked to review the squad’s working,” he said.Kukreja added electrical department has been directed to complete LED Street lights Project by May 2019. “Around 40,000 of total 1.40 lakh street lights have been converted into LED as of now,” he said. The project has been delayed a lot, as it was supposed to be completed by April.
