Metro to start controlled blasting at Shivajinagar

One tunnel would start from Shivajinagar and the other from Swargate.
Both the tunnels will meet near the Phadke Haud area.Gadgil said the authorities would soon float tenders for the tunnel boring machines.
Public information system, which includes alarms and announcements, would be used to make people aware about the blasts.Trenches will be used for the tunnel boring machines.
“It will be am international bidding and the actual work by the machines will start in the next five months,” he said.Four machines priced around Rs70 crore each will be procured for the project.
Officials said the blasting would be used as an option first at Shivajinagar and later at Swargate.The officials said measures have been taken to ensure that the citizens were not affected by the blasting that will be done only during day time.
