Pune: Airport parking to get cheaper

PUNE: Parking vehicles at the city airport will be less expensive from April.Officials on Thursday said a new parking policy has been formulated following a meeting of the Pune Airport Advisory Committee held after a gap of one year.“The rates for park vehicles for 30 minutes remain. However, the charges for parking between 30 minutes and 120 minutes have been brought down,” an airport official told TOI.Charges for parking a two-wheeler and other vehicles will continue to be Rs 10 and Rs 20, respectively, for the first 30 minutes. The additional per-hour parking charges for the two-wheelers will be Rs 5 per hour. “The parking rates beyond 7 hours and up to 24 hours will be 300% of the charges in the 30-120 minute slab,” the official said.Another official said there would be no parking zone on the airport premises. The rates will be announced soon,” he said.In 2016, the authorities used to charge Rs85 from all vehicles if they were present in the airport for over 5 minutes.

Similarly, the rates for car and three-wheeler parking have been brought down from Rs 80 to Rs 55,” an airport official said.Besides, the rates to park SUVs and mini buses in the 30-120 minute category have been brought down from Rs100 to Rs 60. The new rates of parking buses and trucks will be Rs 70.After the completion of 2 hours, a rate of Rs 10 per hour will be charged on all vehicles. The additional per-hour parking charges for the two-wheelers will be Rs 5 per hour. “The parking rates beyond 7 hours and up to 24 hours will be 300% of the charges in the 30-120 minute slab,” the official said.Another official said there would be no parking zone on the airport premises. “Only pickups and drops are allowed inside the airport area. Vehicles dropping passengers will not be charged. Commercial vehicles will be charged. The rates will be announced soon,” he said.In 2016, the authorities used to charge Rs85 from all vehicles if they were present in the airport for over 5 minutes. The system was, however, abolished subsequently.With roads around the airport remaining narrow and commuting becoming a bigger problem, Pune MP and president of the advisory committee Anil Shirole said a special meeting would be convened next week to discuss all the issues.
