PUNE: The court of additional sessions judge A V Rotte on Friday convicted and sentenced six men to life imprisonment for murdering a 19-year-old-youth Rama Gote from Bhosari over a petty dispute in 2015.The assailants were sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for attempting to commit murder of Gote’s friends Rajesh Swamy (29) from Dapodi and Lakhan Gaikwad (25) of Balajainagar in Bhosari.The accused Nagesh Gaikwad, Mahesh Kamble, Omkar Bandal, Vicky Ovhal, Deepak Shinde and Raju Hake were also awared varying punishment for forming unlawful assembly and rioting under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code . All the sentences will run concurrently.The court slapped a fine of Rs 90,000 on the assailants. The judge in her order awarded compensation of 60,000 to the legal heirs of deceased Gote while Rs 30,000 will be distributed to the injured victims under section 357 (a) of the Criminal Procedure Code.The accused were arrested on a complaint filed by the injured victim Swamy at MIDC Bhosari police station. A chargesheet was filed against them on completion of investigation.Additional public prosecutor Sunil Hande said the accused armed with sharp weapons brutally assaulted Gote and his friends at various places in Bhosari area on February 14 over a petty dispute. The impact of the brutal assault was such that Gote succumbed to serious injuries but his friends had survived the attack.The prosecution relied on the evidence of the injured victims and others including doctor and investigation officer for proving guilt of the assailants. The assailants were sent to the Yerawada central jail for undergoing the sentence.
