While the maximum temperature in Maharashtra was already high with a marginal rise expected till January 20, there might be a slight fall in day temperatures thereafter till January 24, due to cloudy conditions and partly northerly wind component. In Pune, Kashyapi said, the minimum temperature might not go below 10°C during the next week.Citizens have welcomed the rise in minimum temperature, which has come as a respite from the chilly weather since December 27, 2018.

An extended range forecast by IMD stated that a 2-3°C rise in minimum temperatures could be expected over Gujarat and Maharashtra during the next three days and over northwest India from January 19.Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather, IMD, Pune, told TOI that the average temperature in parts of Maharashtra, especially Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa and Marathwada, was on the rise as the cold northerly winds had been missing in these regions.“The wind pattern in parts of the state is easterly. Easterly winds are relatively warm and slightly moist in comparison to cold, dry northerly winds. Though there was a western disturbance affecting north India last week, it was too feeble to make a big impact on temperatures in Maharashtra,” he said.Kashyapi added that except Vidarbha, where night temperatures were still below-normal, other regions in the state were experiencing an easterly wind flow.
