PUNE: The Pune regional transport office ( RTO ) is likely to impose a fine between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000 on each of the 15 buses, belonging to Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), found to be prone to catching fire.The RTO authorities have instructed the transport body to immediately take these buses off the road.“We checked a large number of PMPML buses and found that 15 of them have high chances of catching fire. We have asked the transport to immediately take these buses off the road until the issues are resolved. Once the buses are repaired, the RTO will recheck them and also the documents pertaining to fitness,” deputy RTO Vinod Sagare told TOI.Sagare added that once the vehicles come for a rechecking, fines will be imposed. “The fines could be in the range of Rs5,000 to Rs15,000. It was decided that fire audits of the buses would be carried out every month and reports submitted on a monthly basis.“Even after the formation of the committee, buses are suffering breakdowns and catching fire. The committee should put an end to all these cases,” transport activist Sanjay Shitole said.
