PUNE: A magisterial court on Saturday sent the three men arrested for the murder of builder Vinayak Sudhakar Sirsat (32) of Warje in police custody remand till February 22.The Pune police told the court that the three men, identified as Dharamprakash Kartaram Verma (38) of Warje, Mohammad Faruk Ishaque Khan (28) from Uttamnagar and Mukhtarali Masiuddin Ali (34) of Ambegaon , had brutally tortured Sirsat in a car on January 30, before killing him.The builder’s decomposed body was found at a valley in Mutha village on Pirangut-Lavasa road on February 12, around two weeks after his father, Sudhakar, had lodged a missing persons complaint with the Bharati Vidyapeeth police on January 30.Khan and Ali were brought to Pune from Telangana on a transit police custody remand, while Verma was arrested from his hideout in the city on Friday.Assistant inspector S P Yadav of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police produced the suspects before the court and moved a plea for seeking their custodial remand for 14 days. The court was told that the suspects’ custodial interrogation was essential for recovering the car and sharp weapons used in the crime and for ascertaining the real motive behind the murder.The court, after hearing the prosecution, sent the assailants in police custody remand till February 22. The remand plead read, “The trio kidnapped him from a spot located at Nipane Vasti in Narhe in a car and kept on torturing him. They first drove the car to Khed Shivapur from where they took an U-turn to Dehu Road. They then returned to Khed Shivapur and again took a U-turn and drove towards Dehu Road. After reaching Chandni Chowk , they took a left turn towards Paud and stabbed Sirsat to death. They then tied his hands and legs and dumped his body in the Mutha valley for concealing evidence before speeding away.”After Sirsat’s body was recovered, his father had lodged an FIR stating that his son was murdered because he had filed RTI pleas for exposing builders at fringe areas of the city, including Narhe, Ambegaon, Warje, Shivane, Uttamnagar, Kondhwe-Dhawade, Bhugaon, among other places.The police said investigations revealed that Sirsat was kidnapped and murdered by his close friend, Verma, and two of his accomplices over a financial dispute.
