Pune: The Pune police on Tuesday questioned senior academic Anand Teltumbde, who is facing arrest in the Elgar Parishad case for his alleged links with the banned CPI (Maoist) organization, on the basis of five letters recovered from his seized electronic devices.The questioning took place when Teltumbde appeared before the investigating officer (IO) ACP Shivaji Pawar at the Swargate division for the second time after February 14, following the Bombay high court directives.Sources in the Pune police said vital questions pertaining to the letters were posed to Teltumbde, such as how his name figured in the letters and who else were his accomplices. “He was also questioned on the basis of the chargesheet filed against activist Surendra Galding and four others, and also on the basis of further evidence that has come to light during the investigations in respect to the four other arrested activists in the Elgar Parishad case,” the sources said.It is the police’s case that Teltumbde and the nine other accused arrested in the case so far are active members of the CPI (Maoist) organisation, which was behind organizing the Elgar Parishad in Pune on December 31, 2017, as a part of a larger conspiracy to create social unrest, domestic chaos and overthrow the government.Alleged inflammatory speeches and provocative statements made at the Parishad contributed to the January 1, 2018, caste clashes at Koregaon Bhima, about 30km from Pune on Ahmednagar highway, the police said.ACP Pawar told TOI, “Teltumbde was questioned between 10am and 3pm, details of which can’t be made public as the matter is pending before the high court.”Teltumbde’s lawyer Rohan Nahar said, “My client has cooperated with the police and has supplied copies of the articles written by him to the ACP as per the request.
