While the ruling party members immediately countered the claims, they went ahead to demand that February 14 be observed as Shahid Diwas.(PMC) had organised a general body meeting, which began by paying tributes to deceased leaders. While the initial speakers chose to pay tributes to the Pulwama martyrs,(NCP) leader Krishnakant Kudale and former PMC officer Madhav Harihar who passed away last week, Congress leader Avinash Bagwe initiated the debate by questioning the Prime Minister and(BJP) president’s political rallies. He said, “Soldiers don’t belong to any political party. But when the opposition parties chose to cancel all the programmes on the 14th after the news of the attack came and PMC authorities chose to cancel the celebration for its foundation day, the BJP leaders continued to hold rallies and continued inaugurations and launching schemes on the 15th.”NCP leader Subhash Jagtap added, “RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had announced that they need only three days to achieve what the soldiers have to fight for months. They should do the needful now. If they are so serious about the issue, why did the Prime Minister skip the all-party meeting meant to discuss key political issues?”While the ruling party leaders calmly heard what Bagwe said, they created a ruckus over Jagtap’s account. Deepak Pote and Rajesh Yenpure, corporators from the ruling party, raised objection to Jagtap’s statement. They urged Jagtap to take back his words. Jagtap, however, went ahead with his claims and said that the references to his statement are available.
