Pune: Police arrested a 31-year-old man on Thursday for murdering a person, six days after his decomposed body was found at the Paud Road garbage depot.Prima facie, the probe revealed that 50-year-old Subhas Govind Jori, of Kishkindhanagar, was murdered by Jayram Parmar, the arrested suspect. Jori knew about a woman Parmar was having a relationship with.A Kothrud police team, led by senior inspector Appasaheb Shewale, took the suspect into custody after constable Rakesh Tekawade received a tip-off. “We are checking if the woman was involved,” an officer said.Jori, who was a gardener in a Kothrud-based engineering college, had gone missing on February 6. His family members had registered a missing person’s complaint with the Kothrud police on February 10. While the police were looking for him, a severely decomposed body was found at the garbage depot.“We called Jori’s relatives, who ascertained the identity with the help of a pedant Jori was wearing. But they were still unsure as the body had decomposed,” Gaikwad said. Jori’s relatives told the police that he had a surgical implant in his left leg. “We checked Jori’s x-ray reports and his identity was confirmed,” Gaikwad said.The police team then began looking for the suspect. “On February 6, police got a tip-off that Jori had left the college on a motorcycle with a person,” Gaikwad said.He said his team members, including constables Vilas Jori, Shravan Shewale and Nitin Kanawade, checked CCTV footage and arrested Parmar. During questioning, Parmar admitted that he had taken Jori to the garbage depot. “After both of them consumed liquor, Parmar strangled Jori and covered the body with a gunny bag and left,” Gaikwad said.The probe revealed that Parmar was in an illicit relationship with a woman.“Jori used to harass the woman. To end the harassment, Parmar murdered Jori,” the officer said, adding, “We are yet to question the woman.”
