Bomb scare puts MSRTC officials on high alert

Strict instructions have been given to security guards posted at different bus depots to be alert and prevent the movement of suspicious people around depots.“In Pune, bus depots are located at Swargate, Shivajinagar and Pimpri Chinchwad. If a person is found in a parked bus, s/he must produce a ticket. All depots have adequate security guards and they’ve been asked to keep a watch on people loitering in the depot and on parked buses. Pune: The Pune division of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has sounded a high alert following the recovery of an improvised explosive device on a state transport bus at Apta village in Raigad.Over 3,000 MSRTC buses originate from the Pune division each day and nearly an equal number of vehicles reach the city, officials said. We are also in touch with the police and the depots have operational CCTV cameras for proper surveillance,” an official said.

Apart from this, buses coming into the city are being strictly checked.MSRTC managing director Ranjit Singh Deol said that the police is investigating the Raigad incident. “At times, drivers or conductors carry some parcels given by people from one location to another for delivery. In many cases, such parcels are carried illegally. We have instructed them to stop this immediately,” he said.
