The suspects stole the data using the machine and prepared an ATM card using details of Dixit’s card, Lagad said.A card skimmer machine mimics a card reader that is normally found on ATMs or PoS machines. It is suspected that he used his ATM card in Pune for shopping and cash withdrawal.It is suspected that the point of sale (PoS) machine or ATM machine where Dixit swiped his card may have had a card skimmer installed. Later, the Deccan Gymkhana police registered an offence.Lagad said that Dixit had visited Pune a few months ago and went to a few places in the city. It steals the card’s data from its magnetic strip.The suspects then used the cloned card and withdrew cash from ATM centres in Moradabad, Lagad said.“He realised the fraud after he went back to Thailand and attempted to use the ATM card there. After his transactions were declined, he studied the account details and realised the fraud,” Lagad said.He wrote a complaint email to the city police following which an offence was registered, Lagad said.
