Metro sets rate of tickets at Rs 10 for first 5km

Metro officials believe that without this bus service, the Metro initiative could become a complete failure in the city, owing to the inconvenience of travelling from one's home to the station. After contemplating for long, the Metro authorities have decided to fix the ticket fare approximately at Rs10 for a journey of up to 5 km.The officials concerned also feel that the Metro fare will be as affordable as the's (PMPML's) services but with better proximity, services and comfort. The fare fixation committee, which decides the price of tickets, is looking to fix the fare for a distance of about 0-5 km at Rs 10. ""We are of the conviction that our rates will be lesser than the PMPML's air-conditioned buses which have been procured lately. Although MahaMetro is responsible foras well asMetro, the rates for the two cities will be different considering various factors.

After contemplating for long, the Metro authorities have decided to fix the ticket fare approximately at Rs10 for a journey of up to 5 km.The officials concerned also feel that the Metro fare will be as affordable as the's (PMPML's) services but with better proximity, services and comfort. While the PMPML fare starts at Rs 5 and can go up to Rs 60, the metro fare is expected to be fixed at a range between Rs 10 and Rs 40.Atul Gadgil, executive director,Metro Rail Corporation, said, "There is a special committee that decides on how much the ticket price for a particular distance will be. The fare fixation committee, which decides the price of tickets, is looking to fix the fare for a distance of about 0-5 km at Rs 10.""We are of the conviction that our rates will be lesser than the PMPML's air-conditioned buses which have been procured lately. Although MahaMetro is responsible foras well asMetro, the rates for the two cities will be different considering various factors."Nayana Gunde, the chairman and managing director of PMPML, however, sees no harm in the competitive Metro rates and believes that the people using PMPML will continue to do so as this had become a convenient habit with bus stops more easily accessible than Metro stations.Along with Metro, Punekars will also be benefiting from the additional service of feeder buses, which will pick up and drop passengers within a 2-km radius of Metro stations, thus easing short-distance travel for users. Metro officials believe that without this bus service, the Metro initiative could become a complete failure in the city, owing to the inconvenience of travelling from one's home to the station.
