3 drown, biker killed during Holi revelry

Three of them drowned — one at Mulshi and two in the Kasarsai dam — while a man was killed in a motorcycle accident.The deceased biker, Siddharth Sudam Sawant (40), was not wearing a helmet. The youths who drowned in the Kasarsai dam were identified as Shubham Tekeshwar Rajdale (21) of Gondia district and Ritwik Sanjay Giri (20) of Bijlinagar in Akurdi. He was first taken to a nearby private hospital and then to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.

The body of Bavdhan resident Ajay Parshuram Ghodke (20) was fished out from the Mulshi dam on Thursday.The Paud police said Ghodke, who had gone to the dam for a picnic with a few of his friends on Wednesday, went missing without anyone noticing. After his friends contacted the police, a search was undertaken and divers found his body on Thursday.The Talegaon Dabhade police said Rajdale and Giri had gone to the Kasarsai dam, near Hinjewadi, with a group of friends on Thursday to celebrate Holi. The two youths drowned when they, along with others, waded into the water. Their friends conducted a search but could not find them. One of the friends, Pratik Pravin Tribhuvan (26) of Chinchwad, called up the police.A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the police rushed to the site. The bodies of Rajdale and Giri were found after a two-hour search.The road accident victim, Sawant, died on the spot after his motorcycle collided against a minibus near Dange chowk on Thursday afternoon when he was returning after playing Holi. The investigating officer of the Wakad police, D S Shelke, said Sawant was heading towards the chow while the minibus was coming from the opposite side. “At one of the breaches in the road, Sawant suddenly took a U-turn and crashed into the minibus,” he said.Sawant suffered injuries on the face and head. He was first taken to a nearby private hospital and then to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.
